With the coronavirus still around, summer has definitely been turned upside down. But I’m still trying to follow the goals i set for myself early this year, and that includes going on an mini-vacay with the hubby. Travel to us is so important and we’re finding ways to still get away but staying safe. Having a couples-only trip can be essential to helping your relationship feel refreshed and allow you to reconnect.
When we first got married we made a plan to travel at least twice a year. One trip as a family and one with just us. This year has been no different despite #therone trying to derail our plans. In May, we were lucky enough to take a trip to Deep Creek, MD. Us and two other families isolated ourselves in a beautiful lake house. We got to get out of our own quarantined house while still staying away from most other people.
We also planning a couples trip at the end of July, where we plan on being kid-free for a long weekend. I use to not be a fan of going on a couples trip because I honestly prefer traveling with just him. But for the past couple of years, we’ve started going on some of our trips with friends and it’s been way more fun than expected.
Couples trips allow us to spend time with our friends that are in the same place in life as us. Predictably, we can break out into girl/guy groups but also spend time as a group when we want. We can also see how other couples act and where we fall. By no means am I an advocate for comparing relationships. But seeing how our friends are in their relationships can help us add (or subtract things that we like or don’t.
We also don’t have a big friend circle. Going on these trips allows us to spend time with friends we care about it. Every couple we’ve traveled with has the same interests we do. This works out perfect when it’s time to plan activities! We are all also pretty much on the same scale financially which helps with the planning. Often times we’re renting a house with pools, hot tubs, or pool tables. It makes things easier when we know all of us are able to handle the costs.
Even though #therona cancelled our big Thailand trip, we’re luckily still able to get away. Traveling with friends means we’ll still get to have fun and enjoy some time alone. And for us, having that time to reconnect with each other is essential. I’ve talked before about how parenthood changes relationships. Getting time to ourselves allows us to be better parents and partners.
