In the day and age of Pinterest, it can feel extra challenging to ensure that your wedding day feels unique and special. Bloggers, brides and guests share ideas and details from weddings around the globe and, before you know it, the sweet cake-pop favors you planned to use seem over-done.
So, how do you find those unique details and moments that will make your day special? I’ve gathered some of the best advice I could find! Here are 5 unique touches to make your wedding stand out and help keep your planning fun and stress free!
Location, Location, Location
Did you meet your fiance at a baseball game? Why not host your wedding (or rehearsal dinner) at the ballpark? Many stadiums, and other locations for that matter, are now opening up their facilities for other events. Don’t be afraid to ask about the possibilities if there is a locale that is extra special for you and your love.
Gender Roles
As a bride, you have the privilege of choosing the friends and family to stand beside you on your big day. What if your best friend is your brother? Instead of the traditional choice of asking your partner-to-be if your brother can be a groomsman, ask him to stand on your side as your Man-of-Honor. (Just don’t make him wear a dress – unless he wants to!) Do not be bound by tradition if you are not a traditional person. The more your wedding reflects you and your fiance, the more memorable and lovely it will be.
Pick a Guest Activity
Traditional weddings can be very predictable – ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, reception and dancing. These weddings can be a lot of fun, but why not incorporate an out-of-the-box activity for your guests? Do you love to paint? As a mobile painting studio to set up an area for guests to create a piece of artwork you will hang in your home? Or, if you love lawn games, set up a small putting green, bean bag toss and ladder golf during the cocktail hour to get guests up and moving! Consider those attending your event, your hobbies and your venue and let the ideas roll. The activity you select may even help inspire a creative location for your day or a fun rehearsal dinner your guests won’t soon forget.
Family Style
We have all seen photo after photo of the beautiful reception halls with round tables and pretty centerpieces, but for some brides, the separation of guests makes seating charts a challenge! Try setting up your tables and the food family style. One long table or a few long tables with dishes to pass and share will help your guests to bond and enjoy each other throughout the reception. Family style seating still allows for assigned seating, if you wish, but it’s not necessary. And who doesn’t love to cross something off their long wedding to-do list? Take it a step further by asking guests to sit near someone they haven’t met!
And the Bride Wore White
Or did she? If your favorite color is lilac, and you find a gown you love in the perfect shade, don’t feel pressured to wear white on your big day! If not wearing white during the ceremony is a little too outside the box for you, consider a reception or an after party gown in your favorite color to add a personal touch. A few other ways to incorporate your favorite color? Jewelry, a sash, flowers in your hair or your shoes! Again, the idea here is to be certain you aren’t limited by the traditional ideas of how a wedding is “supposed” to be.
