It’s hard to believe that you’re little girl’s is having a birthday! She’s growing into a smart, loving, funny girl who loves life. You want to do a themed birthday party for her—but she likes so many things it’s difficult to pick one! Yet there’s one thing she’s adored for a while now and that’s Hello Kitty. She and her girlfriends would love that theme!
Insightful Invitations
You can easily buy a set of Hello Kitty blank invitations and thank you cards. But if you have the time and are creative, you can send out one of these unique invitations. A terrific 3D invitation to mail each guest is a Hello Kitty tiara. On the tiara, attach a pretty pink tag with all the birthday gala details on it. Each little girl will be amazed when they open their package; best of all, they can wear it on the big day!
Another fantastic option for invitations is to whip up a batch of Hello Kitty cookies and put them on a stick. Using fancy shipping tags, write all the party details on each one and tie each tag on the sticks with a pink or red ribbon to create an edible invitation. If you don’t want to use the sticks, wrap the cookies in bright pink tissue paper, place each cookie inside a small gift box, put a tag on top of each box and tie the box with pink ribbon.
Since this is a birthday bash for young kids, you’ll want to keep the time to about two hours or a bit less. Mail your invitations 3-5 weeks before your daughter’s big day. This will give parents plenty of time to put the date on their calendars and respond to the invitation.
Delightful Decorations
If the weather is nice enough to have the celebration outdoors place balloons around the edges of the party area. This will help define the space. But what can you use to keep the balloons from floating away? An adorable way to weigh them down is with plush Hello Kitty toys.
If the festivities are going to be inside, you can still decorate the outside—sort of like leading them in to the main attraction. You could place a pink carpet runner from the driveway up your walkway to the front door. If you like, place balloon bunches along the carpet runner or perhaps just use the balloons by themselves. If you’d rather have something simple, hang a balloon wreath on your front door; make it out of white and pink balloons with a Hello Kitty paper plate in the center.
Transform the party room into a Hello Kitty palace with lavender and pink paper swirls and streamers hanging from the ceiling. Use latex Hello Kitty balloons to perk up the corners of the room. Wall decals are a wonderful idea too—they peel and stick to walls and are easily removed. They’re also reusable so you can put them on your child’s bedroom walls after her festive day! With pink construction paper, cut out a five-inch circle and four two-inch circles to create a paw print that you can tape to a window or patio door.
For the table, keep the setting simple—you don’t want to overdo the theme. If you get a Hello Kitty tablecloth then purchase lavender or hot pink paper plates, cups, napkins and utensils. If you’re using a plain white or pink tablecloth then feel free to use Hello Kitty-themed paper plates and such. Don’t forget about the Hello Kitty Happy Birthday banner to pin up on the wall behind the table. For a table centerpiece there are some cool ideas on Pintrest. Maybe you’d rather hang some tissue pom-poms above the table; use different shades of pink or white, lavender and pink pom-poms to make your table pop.
Fabulous Food and Drink
Food and drinks should be easy—just prepare what the kids like. To put an imaginative spin on it, have each food named after a character from Hello Kitty:
- Badtz-Maru hamburgers
- Keroppi French fries
- Little Twin Stars strawberry punch, milk or milkshakes
- Pandapple assorted fruit
If you don’t want something that elaborate you could always do the next best thing: buy a Hello Kitty vegetable/cookie cutter and make mini pizzas or, if you prefer, one big pizza. To form her face use pepperoni or ham for her bow, half of a cherry tomato for her nose and black olives for her whiskers and eyes. Serve pink lemonade to wash it down.
Of course, what all the children will be waiting for is the Hello Kitty cake. You can make just a plain sheet cake with pink frosting and add cake toppers to it; or you can go all out and do one of these beautiful cakes.
Gleeful Games and Entertainment
To keep the kids busy while everyone arrives, let them color a page or two from a Hello Kitty coloring book. Once everyone is there, you can begin the celebration. Some fun games or things to have them do are:
- Kitty Treasure Hunt – Before the festivities, use your computer and printer to print out a slew of various sized facial images of Hello Kitty and hide them all over the room(s). Discover which little girl can find the most images and let them turn the faces in for prizes.
- Pin the Bow – This is similar to Pin the Tail on the Donkey except they’ll pin on bows instead of tails. Hand each girl a bow and, one at a time, blindfold each girl then gently spin them around several times and head them in the direction of the big picture of Hello Kitty. Whoever puts their bow closest to the correct spot wins the game and receives a prize.
- Catch Kitty – This game is a lot like Freeze Tag. Provide Hello Kitty masks for half of the children at the party; the other half doesn’t wear a mask. Start the game of tag and as the kids are caught each must stand still with their arms and legs spread open. They can be let back in the game only if a person from their team wriggles through their legs to “free” them. The game continues until one team has caught everyone on the other team.
- Hello Kitty Says – A cute variation on Simon Says. The kids play the game the same way but the adult says, “Hello Kitty says…” instead of “Simon says…”
- Activities – You can also have some fun things to do such as hitting a Hello Kitty piñata, making bracelets or dressing in Hello Kitty costumes.
- Freeze Dance – If they dress up in the Kitty costumes then the little ladies are all set to play! Let the music begin and watch them dance; then stop the music and they must freeze in their position. If anyone is caught moving (even the slightest), they’re eliminated from the game. The one child that’s left wins a prize.
Perfect Party Favors
When the bash is over and the girls are leaving, it’s always nice to give them some way to remember the party and say thank you for attending. Charming Hello Kitty goodie bags packed with things they like are an excellent hand-out. But what kind of Hello Kitty-themed goodies can you put in the bags? Here are some awesome ideas:
- Hello Kitty princess rings
- Lip smackers
- Hello Kitty bubbles
- Rock candy or snack-sized candy
- Personalized Hello Kitty buttons
- Cheap costume jewelry to match her costume
- Hello Kitty sunglasses
If you don’t have the time to fill each bag individually—or you think it’d be cheaper—you can buy pre-filled favor bags. Either way, your guests will appreciate the items!
To your little girl having a birthday is a big deal! So plan, prepare and then relax when the festive day arrives and all the details are done. Then you can enjoy her celebration right along with her!
