One of the most current wedding trends is for the couple to have a first look. This is done in a designated spot before the wedding, and gives the couple a chance to see each other privately (except for a few photographers, of course!) before actually saying, ‘I do’.
While some couples love to follow the fad, others feel they want to stick with tradition, saving the first glance for the actual ceremony. I’m not sure exactly where I stand either way. Part of me is a stickler for tradition, but then there’s the part that thinks it’d be pretty cool to have that private moment. If you’re struggling on the decision, check out the following pros and cons to help you decide if this is the trend for you.
Pros:
More Time to Enjoy: A first glance allows you to take most of your posed photographs before the ceremony. This allows you to flow straight from the ceremony to that amazing reception you worked so hard to plan.
Photos that say Wow: A few moments alone together before the wedding is the ultimate way to have your emotions explode on film. If you want powerful photos from the big day, having a first glance is the perfect way to get them.
A little chat goes a long way: It’s amazing what even the briefest of moments alone with your significant other can do for you – emotionally and mentally. Having the chance to talk privately with one another before the ceremony begins is a chance to calm any pre-wedding jitters.
Double First Glance: It’s not often you get to have a first glance … twice! Before the ceremony and again when the wedding begins. Emotions will be different both times you see each other, so enjoy the double “first” glance!
Cons:
Breaking Tradition: While there are many positives to having a first glance, the only real drawback is whether or not you want to break tradition. These days, many couples aren’t quite as conventional as they used to be. But if you like tradition, that’s okay! If you’ve always dreamed of your spouse seeing you for the first time as you walk down the aisle, be sure to make that happen! You’ll regret it if you don’t.
