A couple of weeks ago when Instagram and Facebook went dark, I saw lots of businesses scramble to reach their audiences. Social media alone is not a marketing strategy! While I had planned on doing this series before the “social blackout”, it’s proved timely. There are other ways that you should be using to market your business and reach potential clients and customers. So today, let’s talk blogging. Clearly, I have a blog. I’ve been blogging since around 2015 and it’s not because I like to write! Most of my interaction with blogs has come from looking for information. Whether that’s a recipe or trying to find the latest business trends, blogs have helped me learn new things. If you’re not using blogs for your business, here are some reasons why you need to start.
Give your clients additional value
Blogs are an amazing way to give value to existing clients and nurture warm leads. Let’s be honest…you’re probably here to learn something and blogs help convey information!
Create a Pinterest funnel
When someone lands on your blog from Pinterest, you’re giving them instant value and showing you are the go-to person to solve their problem. And if you’re not using Pinterest to bring people to your website, you need to be! Pinterest has the longest “shelf-life” of any social media platform. While Instagram posts quickly disappear into the abyss, Pinterest will keep showing your content over and over again, letting new people find you all the time.
Gain Google Visibility and Build Domain Authority
When you use proper keywords and create magnetic blog posts, people will come to you! Blogs are great for SEO (search engine optimization) and search engines (like Google) like sites that are being consistently updated. It lets them know that the site is still in use and is a relevant hit for a search result.
Grow Your Email List
There’s no easier way to get email leads than an opt-in on your website. Put them on all of your blog posts & BAM, new email sign-ups! And you want folks on your email list (check back next week to read why).
Create on Your Own Platform
You don’t own Instagram or any other social media platforms and obviously, we see they can be unreliable. You do however own your website and the content on it. With your website, a good blog, and proper SEO, you have a better chance of reaching potential clients for those times when social media changes its algorithm.
Showcase Your Credibility
You know what you’re talking about, so why not establish yourself as a thought leader in your industry? This goes along with giving your clients additional value. By having a platform that lets you show off your knowledge and skillset, you’re letting potential clients know that you are a credible source of knowledge and someone they should hire.
Repurpose Killer Content
I’m all about repurposing content! Take content you’ve already worked hard on and make it blog-friendly so that it gets more eyes on it! Remember, not everyone uses social media, and some people digest information in different ways. There’s nothing wrong with using the same content in different mediums to reach more people.
