With all the things you have to spend money on for your wedding, RSVP cards can get thrown to the backburner if you don’t see the need for them. They are small, tend to remain unfilled and have to be taken back up and counted. However, here are a few reasons not to overlook your RSVPs and why they are important.
You get a headcount for your caterer
If you bring in your cards on time, you can get a rough headcount for your caterer and potentially save yourself a good bit of money in the process. Typically, not every guest you invite is going to be able to attend so knowing how much ‘extra’ food you are going to have can help you adjust your order accordingly.
Online/Email is not as effective
Online RSVPs are a growing trend due to their efficiency and to save money, however they are not as effective with every generation. A lot of people can’t navigate the online RSVP section, particularly the older generation, and would much rather have paper to fill out and send back. In addition, relying on online RSVPs is extremely risky if anything crashes or miscounts – there is no backup plan if something were to happen.
It will help solidify seating
If you have a seating chart this is a no brainer, but knowing how many guests are going to be attending is really important for seating. Similarly to catering, you need to know how many people are going to be there to know how many tables/chairs you need to have. If you have way too many your wedding will look empty, and way too few people won’t have anywhere to sit. It’s impossible to have this spot on, but having a rough estimate is very helpful.
You can control who all is coming
By sending an RSVP card you can put a limit on the specific number of guests you’re inviting within families. There is always that one family that wants to bring their grandparents, cousins and boyfriends and you can avoid any awkward confrontations or surprises by sending out an RSVP card with the blank for the guest limit. This is also helpful for the guests themselves as they know who is/is not invited.
You can have fun with them!
RSVP cards are another great way to add your own personal touch to your wedding invitations and really go will with the invitations themselves. They will make your invitations look more legit and classy without having to be over-the-top expensive. They are an inexpensive way to take your invitations to the next level visually.
