So many events I plan–weddings, baby showers, fundraisers–tend to be aimed at the ladies. While I love coming up with the perfect delicate, feminine touch, it’s a real treat every once in awhile to be able to go the opposite direction and put together a male-oriented event. I had the chance to do just that with this “Cheers and Beers” bash for a thirtieth birthday party for a special someone (aka my hubby)!
For the invitation, I chose a variety of playful, yet sturdy fonts for a typography-based design. The black, gold, and white color scheme and strong grid are reminiscent of a chalkboard menu in a taproom…
…which is a perfect tie-in to the birthday boy’s passions of enjoying fine beers, cigars, and hookah smoking.
In addition to real chilled beers and fine smokables, we offered up perfectly themed treats. (How adorable are these beer-label cookies?) If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that my go-to cookie maker is Leti of Leti’s Confectionery Dreams. She delivers every time and these are no exception!
Lime-garnished Patron cupcakes were another tasty addition to the table (courtesy of The Art of Suga!). (You can make your own margarita version. They’re surprisingly easy to make yourself; try this recipe from Brown-Eyed Baker. Watch out for that sneaky tequila-lime frosting, though!)
But the dessert table pièce de résistance was definitely this “humidor” cake. It was a great way for everyone to enjoy a fine cigar, even those who are committed non-smokers! I got this one from Fluffy Thoughts Cakes but here’s a tutorial from Cup a Dee Cakes on creating a similar one (think foamcore!).
Cheers and happy birthday to my awesome hubby! You definitely deserved all the work that went into putting together your party and I look forward to celebrating many more birthdays together!
